How to Get Over Someone
Let’s face it, we’ve all experienced being the dumpee or if you’re about that life, the dumper. Is that a real word? It’s probably not but I believe you get what I’m saying. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you may have experienced heartbreak before or might be experiencing it now. We’ve all gone through it and with these tips, it can be a little less traumatic for you.
Here are the ultimate tips and tricks to get you through those hard times.
Now, this first one may seem a little far fetched, but hear me out.
1. Feel the Feelings
You’re probably thinking, “why would I want to hurt, I’m here to get over it” but you got to get those emotions out.
Cry, scream, and mope but not for long. Express every emotion you’re feeling but don’t let those dark, depressive emotions stay forever. It’s most definitely beneficial to allow yourself to be vulnerable. It’s okay to be vulnerable.
2. Think About Yourself
After a while it will be time for you to tell yourself to get up. Get up physically, emotionally, and mentally for yourself.
Here’s an amazing message by the talented pastor and bestselling author, Sarah Jakes Roberts. This video will guaranteed fill your heart with the courage to get up for yourself again. It’s called “Girl, Get Up”. Very fitting, right?
Something people have questioned me about is how can they detach. How can I become emotionless towards certain situations?
Well, an extremely helpful tactic that’ll keep your emotions in check would be to “change the channel”.
Changing the channel means you think about something else. You focus your energy towards another area of your life instead of the “old channel”. Change the channel from thinking about them to thinking about you.
Think about healing, elevating, bossing up your life, trying something new, creating a routine that’ll make you “the it girl” (Here’s a step by step guide for becoming “that girl”) or simply just doing some self care and bettering your inner and outer being. Simply put, put yourself first!
3. Think About the Future
It’s time to let the past go and start welcoming your future.
Reminiscing about all the good times y’all had or how y’all were so good back then is practically second nature after a break up however it isn’t helping you embrace what you could have or who you could be attracting today.
You have to look yourself in the mirror and think about what you want your life to consist of. You want a partner like ____, that does ___. They make you feel special and you love how they value you.
Manifestation is real and best believe if you’re consistently developing into the woman you envision yourself becoming, there is a person who’ll match that.
You have to become that woman for yourself and your future.
4. Get Moving
Ma’am, get your life together!
Do your hair, your nails, go study, do some school work, take a walk, ride a bike, start a business, clean up, hang with friends and family or learn something new.
Prioritize yourself by getting the tasks done that you’ve left on the back burner.
What’s that activity or hobby you’ve been thinking about but started slacking in? Go do it!
Have a mini vacay. Watch informative or entertaining videos and movies or listen to podcasts. Start eating better, start exercising or simply stretch often.
Get your money up, go to the gym, stay on top of your school work or find a new hobby.
Find yourself. Find out what you like and dislike. Develop yourself. Relearn who you are and what you like. You’d be surprised at how much you’ve changed while in a relationship.
Side Note: stay off social media.
It’s not benefiting you if you’re holding on to what they’re doing. This can cause you to develop a new bad habit which can make you more sad about the situation or you can feel hurt by what they post. This can be difficult at first so give yourself grace if you do end up on their page however don’t stay there.
5. PRAY
Now, I’m not one to push my beliefs on anyone, but I’m hoping you’re connected to a higher power.
You are extremely loved and cherished by God. He’s creating the path for you and you’re simply walking it. This experience will be a pivotal moment in your journey of becoming the woman you want to be so include Him in this journey.
It doesn’t matter how small or silly you may think it is. Know that you are being guided towards something better suited for you. Remember God may take something away you couldn’t have ever imagined losing but He’ll also replace it with something you couldn’t have ever imagined gaining.
So pray for healing and the life you desire. There’s a reason you desire to be valued, loved, and respected in a relationship. It’s because that’s what you deserve and praying to God about it will align you to it.
He is listening and ready to provide.
I hope you ladies enjoyed these tips on how to get over a break up.
Remember that the best relationships come from two people who are whole on their own and come together to make each other happier.
Happier, not happy.
So continue making yourself happy and whole.
I love you and God loves you. Until next time.
